A common failure point
Front inner axle seals have been a recurring source of premature leakage and shaft wear on 79 Series Landcruiser models, contributing to reliability concerns and more frequent maintenance than owners would like. Terrain Tamer has released a Heavy Duty Front Inner Axle Seal engineered to address that issue, and it is being progressively added into the brand’s existing Bearing Kits where applicable.
Dual lip design
The new seal uses a dual lip design, providing two layers of protection against leaks and contaminants rather than the single line of defence found in a standard seal. Its lips also engage the shaft differently to an OE seal, allowing it to maintain an effective seal even on shafts that have already picked up wear — a point at which standard seals typically begin to fail.
Less wear, less downtime
The design minimises contact wear on the axle shaft itself, extending the working life of both the seal and the shaft it protects. A self-lubricating construction reduces friction by up to 30%, which Terrain Tamer says translates into less downtime and reduced maintenance frequency for workshops and fleet operators running affected vehicles hard.
Fitment
The Heavy Duty Front Inner Axle Seal suits Toyota LandCruiser 70, 80, and 100 Series models, as well as Nissan Patrol GQ and GU. It is available under two part numbers — 90310-35005HD for the LandCruiser application and 40533-01J00HD for the Patrol application — and is being rolled out across a range of Terrain Tamer’s existing Bearing Kits.
